Today, Gaza faces the “largest orphan crisis” in modern history. UNICEF estimates that at least 17,000 children have become unaccompanied or separated from their families. The Palestinian Bureau of Statistics recorded that over 39,000 children have lost one or both of their parents in Gaza.

Children have been shot dead approaching the “yellow line” in search of food for themselves and their families, and the winter weather is creating a crisis for the hundreds of thousands living in tents without waterproofing.

When a child loses their parents to war and genocide, their future hinges on urgent care, hope and compassion. The global community owes it to the orphaned Palestinian children of Gaza to step up.

Ali is 8 years old. He lost both of his parents in an airstrike on Jabalia refugee camp in northern Gaza. Now labeled as WCNSF (“Wounded Child, No Surviving Family”), he navigates daily life with distant relatives amid collapsed family networks and scarce psychological support.

Hamed and Rida Aliwa are grandparents in Gaza City; their five sons and their wives were all killed in Israeli attacks. Now, they provide daily care for their 36 grandchildren in the rubble of their destroyed home, without support.
