In loving memory of Yousef Abu Dalu and Ameer Nureddin Sehweil

In the face of unbearable sorrow and injustice, we find strength in community and purpose. For years, the Palestine Foundation has believed that even in our deepest grief, we can create opportunities for compassion and change.

Last year, our community was heartbroken by the sudden and tragic loss of Yousef, a vibrant 25-year-old whose life was cut short in a sudden and shocking accident. His passing left his family and all who knew him in profound devastation.

To channel their grief into a force for good, and to honor Yousef’s memory with action, his parents have partnered with the Palestine Foundation. Together, we are holding a special gathering—not just to mourn, but to extend a lifeline to families suffering an ocean away, yet who feel so close as we witness their plight daily.

We invite you to stand in solidarity with Yousef’s family. By joining us, you will help provide critical aid—tents and blankets—to keep vulnerable families in Gaza alive and warm this winter. Your presence will be a powerful gesture of empathy, transforming memory into tangible hope.

Guest Speaker, Dr. Ahlam Muhtaseb

Dr. Ahlam Muhtaseb is a professor of media studies at California State University, San Bernardino (CSUSB) and a senior data justice fellow with Princeton’s Ida B. Wells Just Data Lab. She has an M.A. in Journalism and a Ph.D. in Communication Studies from the University of Memphis, Tennessee. She is the recipient of the 2024 Women Support Organization’s Distinguished Woman of the Year award and the 2024 Activism and Social Justice Scholarly Influence Award by the National Communication Association’s (NCA’s) Activism and Social Justice Division. She is also the recipient of the 2020 CSUSB Outstanding Scholarship, Research and Creative Activities Award and the 2019-20 Outstanding Research and Creative Activity Faculty Mentor Awardees. In 2019, she won the Rebuilding Alliance “Story Teller” Award. Her research interests include digital communication, digital resistance & decolonization, social justice, and diasporic communities. She is working currently on a study of Palestinian digital resistance and decolonizing digital spaces. She co-produced and co-directed the documentary 1948: Creation & Catastrophe that had been screened at over 20 film festivals and at universities and community organizations throughout the world. Experience Gaza Before the Genocide Through The Phoenix of Gaza

“Naim Aburaddi, who was a student in the department of communication studies at California State University San Bernardino, and his professor, Ahlam Muhtaseb, created “The Phoenix of Gaza XR” as a platform for people around the world to learn, engage, and connect with the people of Gaza. As media scholars and social justice activists, Muhtaseb and Aburaddi—who is currently pursuing a Ph.D. at the University of Colorado-Boulder—believe that 360-degree technology and virtual reality can be compelling drivers of social change.

“The Phoenix of Gaza XR” is a virtual gateway to pre-destruction Gaza, featuring hundreds of videos and images of daily activities in Gaza taken with a 360-degree camera, including bustling city streets and shops, religious and cultural celebrations, children at school and at play, women sewing, and farmers harvesting their crops. The project was born out of Aburaddi’s inability to visit Gaza—it had been 6 years when he began the project in 2022—and “his yearning to feel, touch, smell, and relive his cherished memories in Gaza.” Aburaddi and Muhtaseb hired a videographer living in Gaza to capture the footage between July 2022 and July 2023.” Read more
